Comet Hale-Bopp by Don Bates

By Don Bates. Here is a photo I took on 3/28/97 of Comet Hale-Bopp from Ft. Davis, TX.
I used a 135mm Nikkor at f/3.5 for 10 minutes with Hypered Kodak PPF-400 film.
The image was started around 9:55pm CST. Note the small red object
in the upper right hand corner. That is planetary nebula PK130-11.1.

Comet Hale-Bopp by Don Bates, Houston TX USA.
Here is a photo that I took on February 11,1997 at 4:36am from northwest of Houston.
I used a 200mm f/4 Nikkor and piggybacked the guided exposure for 8 minutes using Kodak 400 Gold film.
Note the red hourglass shaped M27 above the comets tail.
You can also see two different shades of color in the dust and ion tails.
The comet and M27 were visible in the same field of 10X50 Binos.
Spectacular sight!

North American Nebula by Don Bates, Houston TX USA
NGC7000 - This image of the North American and Pelican Nebulas
was taken on 9-7-96 from a country road near Hempstead, TX.
I used a 200MM Nikkor at f/4, piggybacked on a Meade 8"SCT.
The exposure was 20 minutes using the new Kodak PPF-400 film.
I processed the image with Photoshop 2.5.

This image of the Whirlpool nebula was taken from Ft Davis, TX on 2-18-96.
I used a Meade 8" SCT at f/6.3. The exposure lasted 20 minutes on Fujucolor HG-400.

This image was taken with a Meade 8"SCT at f/6.3 from my backyard in suburban Houston on 1-9-96.
I used Hypered Tech Pan flims and a Lumicon Deep Sky filter for 25 minutes.

Comet Hyakutake by Don Bates.
This was taken at Ft. Davis, TX USA on Monday, March 25 at 2:24am with a 135mm Nikkor piggybacked on his
8" Meade SCT.
Using hypered Fuji 400, he exposed the film for 12 minutes.
