![]() (Full size 222k) 3/28/97 By Don Bates. Here is a photo I took on 3/28/97 of Comet Hale-Bopp from Ft. Davis, TX. I used a 135mm Nikkor at f/3.5 for 10 minutes with Hypered Kodak PPF-400 film. The image was started around 9:55pm CST. Note the small red object in the upper right hand corner. That is planetary nebula PK130-11.1. |
![]() (Full size 23k) 2/11/97 Comet Hale-Bopp by Don Bates, Houston TX USA. Here is a photo that I took on February 11,1997 at 4:36am from northwest of Houston. I used a 200mm f/4 Nikkor and piggybacked the guided exposure for 8 minutes using Kodak 400 Gold film. Note the red hourglass shaped M27 above the comets tail. You can also see two different shades of color in the dust and ion tails. The comet and M27 were visible in the same field of 10X50 Binos. Spectacular sight! |

I used a 200MM Nikkor at f/4, piggybacked on a Meade 8"SCT. The exposure was 20 minutes using the new Kodak PPF-400 film. I processed the image with Photoshop 2.5. |
